Metal Models Masterclass

Jewellery Techniques : 1-Day Course

All tutors work are professional jewellers or are jewellery trade specialists who are willing to share their expertise and trade secrets with you.

Course Description
The level of accuracy, finesse and speed with which you fabricate a handmade metal master model for moulding and casting has immediate effect on the profit margin of the finished piece of jewellery.

With this in mind this course has been designed to provide you with tips of the trade to help you reduce making time, whilst maintaining quality and design characteristics.

Using their own master models in process to demonstrate, the tutor will explain how to develop a model perfect for casting and the methods you can employ to make your production run easier to manage and time efficient.

You may bring along some of your own models for discussion if you wish.

Course agenda

  • Thinking ahead - Design elements important for the casting process

  • Fabrication tips of the trade

  • Sprue design and placement

  • Pre-casting finish

  • Post casting finish

This is not a practical course; you will be in discussion with an experienced and successful commercial jeweller to gain an understanding  and identify where you can improve your own practise.
