What is Polymer Clay?

This clay like material is a useful and interesting choice for any Jeweller to consider for as an additive material for a contemporary Jewellery concept.

Polymer clay is a non-toxic PVC (poly vinyl chloride) based modelling clay that doesn’t contain clay minerals but it does act like clay when liquid is added to dry Polymer clay particles.

Essentially a plastic product, this is a flexible unusual material that allows jewellers and sculptors to be creative with colour and forming, with endless possibilities for shaping and re-shaping if it is stored correctly.

Once shaped Polymer clay piece is cured by oven baking at a low temperature, curing time/temperature varies depending on the brand of clay used.

There are a wide variety of clay types/brands that provide a wide range of colours and mixing possibilities to creative unique colour palettes.
