What is Mokume Gane?

Mokume Gane' is the ancient Japanese silversmithing technique of layering or laminating different coloured metals together permanently to achieve a wood grain like affect process;

Mokume (Wood Grain)

Gane`(Metal)

Metals with compatible malleability can be fused together by applying pressure and heat. This technique alters the molecular structure of metal that allows the metals to join or fuse together without soldering.

Patterns are created through cutting and re-forging the formed layers to create unique designs.
